Epson printer utility functions
Free download Epson Connect Printer Setup Epson Connect Printer Setup for Mac OS X. Epson Connect Printer Setup Utility is used to enable Epson Connect so you can print emails, documents, or photos from any device that can send an email. Open the Epson Printer Utility. Double-click the EPSON Printer Utility icon in the Applications folder in Macintosh HD. Select the printer from the Printer List, then click OK. Alternatively, open Print & Fax from System Preferences (10.5, 10.4, 10.3) or the Print Center from /Applications/Utilities (10.2, 10.1).
Epson printer utilities allow you to check the current printer status and perform certain maintenance procedures from your computer.
EPSON StatusMonitor | Monitors the printer status. If it detects a printer error, it will inform you with an error message. You can also use this utility to check how much ink is remaining before printing. To use the EPSON StatusMonitor, click the EPSONStatusMonitor button. |
Auto Nozzle Check and Cleaning | Prints nozzle check pattern and automatically checks print head nozzles. If they are clogged, performs head cleaning. |
Nozzle Check | Checks the print head nozzles for clogging. Check the nozzles if you notice print quality has declined and after cleaning, to confirm that the print head nozzles have been cleared. If the nozzle check indicates that the print head needs cleaning, you can access the Head Cleaning utility directly from the Nozzle Check utility. |
Head Cleaning | The Head Cleaning utility cleans the print head. You may need to clean the print head if you notice print quality has declined. Use the Nozzle Check utility first to confirm that the print head needs to be cleaned. |
Print Head Alignment | The Print Head Alignment utility can be used to improve the print quality of your documents. The print head alignment may need to be adjusted if vertical lines appear out of alignment or if white, black, dark, or light banding appears in your documents. Follow the on-screen instructions for using this utility. |

I've been struggling with my Epson L1800 for quite some time now.
I'm running Big Sur and even with the previous Mac OS I usually had flaws when printing which was 'easily'resolved by Cleaning Print Heads (System Preferences | Printers & Scanners | Utility | Clean Print Heads). However it does not make the trick any longer so the support pointed to 'Open Printer Utility' but then again it can't be opened no matter what I do.
I checked all drivers and updates (all seems to be ok according to Epson Updater).

It's rather a shame that Epson is taking too long to resolve this issue.
